9 things you should never ask bisexual men

Think twice before saying something offensive and biphobic. Unfortunately, there are still many people who ask many of these questions and comments. So we thought the time has come to remind gays and straights of the things you should never say to a bi man.

1. “Who do you like best? Men or women?"

Sexual attraction can ebb and flow. Sometimes a bi man can only look at men, and watch exclusively gay porn. Sometimes he only thinks about women he is attracted to. Sexual attraction is not quantifiable.

2. “When was the last time you had sex with [insert gender]?”

This question is a trap. It assumes that you must actively have sex with multiple genders to be “truly” bisexual. This is not the case.

3. "When was the last time you dated a [insert gender]?"

This question is also a trap. It assumes that you must actively date multiple genders to be bi. You can be bi and date only one gender. You can also be bi and be in a committed monogamous relationship with one person (of any gender).

4. "So does that mean you don't like trans people?"

Bisexuality doesn't mean you're only attracted to cis men and women. The “bi” in bisexuality means that you are attracted to genders that are the same as you and to genders that are not. So this question really depends on each one.

5. “But you are married to a [insert gender!]”

Yes, that's true, but that doesn't mean that sexual attractions for various genders go away. It's like, when you're gay and you're married to another man, you're still attracted to other men. You are simply not acting on these sexual urges because you have made a commitment.

6. “Research speculates that bisexuality doesn't really exist in men.”

Girl, bye. A lot of research on sexuality is terrible. Truly horrible. They do weird things like measure your erection strength and then claim you're not bisexual. There's a lot more than physiology and the strength of your hard-on that goes into sexual identity.

7. “Isn’t everyone a bit bisexual?”

Not. Otherwise, there would be a lot more straight men looking for the company of other men.

8. “I used to identify as bi before I realized I was gay.”

Good for you! This doesn't mean that all bisexual men use the label as a springboard just because you did. Some men proudly identify as bisexual and will do so until the day they die.

9. “Do you want to do a threesome with me and my girlfriend?”

Most bi men (and bi women, for that matter) don't like to have proposals for a threesome before they know anything about the couple's request. Being bisexual is not an experiment.
